Sky have decided to lead with the ‘surprise’ that Fulham are privately chasing a top-ten place but for me the real story is that Roy Hodgson has promised him that from now on he’ll play on the right.
So far I played as a left-sided midfielder which is not really my cup of tea. Hodgson and I agreed that from now I should play on the right side. I’m very happy about it because I feel much more comfortable over there.
There’s no doubting that Gera’s happier on the right but, in itself, that’s no guarantee that he’ll be back straight back in the starting line-up. Clint Dempsey’s the man in possession at the moment and he deserves to stay in the team after turning in some impressive performances since winning the jersey back. There’s a bit of a lot of discussion about the underperforming Simon Davies and maybe he’ll be the one to miss out?
I think Gera would be best in the middle. That doesn’t solve any problems on the left – actually it would probably create an extra one in the middle – but I think that’s where he would be most useful. Simon Davies will return to form but would certainly be a lot happier on the right wing.
Might have helped if I’d actually read the Sky piece before replying. Interesting point. If he’s waiting for a spot on the right he’s probably in a queue behind Davies and Dempsey. I can’t see Roy agreeing to that quite so readily as Gera suggests. Davies doesn’t perform at his best on the left, clearly Rot prefers to keep Dempsey away from that side too, so now we have three players eyeing one slot and no-one that keen to play on the left. Julian Gray maybe? I doubt it though. Be interesting to see where this leads.
