I’ve made the point before – many times – about our shocking record in the Cups in recent years and, at first glance, it looks like we’ve got a tricky Third Round draw in the FA Cup.

We’ve been drawn away at Sheffield Wednesday and the tie will be played at Hillsborough during the weekend of 3/4 January. I’d quite like to make the trip but fear that the post-Christmas/New Year financial squeeze might make that a pipe dream. Remarkably, we haven’t won at Hillsborough since a 3-0 success in the old Second Division in December 1973. Hopefully, we can put that right but it won’t be easy.

Wednesday sit 12th, at the moment, in the Championship (that’s Division 1 in not-so-old money) and they’ve only lost two home league games all season. They might be a good omen in that the last team to beat the Owls were managed by a certain Chris Coleman.
