Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was ‘very satisfied’ to come away from Saturday’s clash at Aston Villa with a Premier League point.

The Cottagers, who now lie eighth in the table, made it four league games unbeaten as they held on against fourth-placed Villa.

Hodgson was impressed with his side’s defensive display as they recorded their fifth clean sheet of the season.

He said “I am very satisfied to take a point against an in-form team who are deservedly in the top four.

“We knew we would have to be at our best defensively if we were going to get anything from the game.

“I thought the team stood firm during a siege in the second half and I don’t think we need to apologise too much for having come away with a point.

“I thought we did really well to stop them getting into dangerous crossing positions for the best part of the game.

“We rode our luck a little bit on one or two of their free-kicks, but to be fair if you are going to come here and get a good result you are going to need a bit of luck.”

He added: “I think our recent results show we have got character and that the players have confidence in what they are doing.

“It shows we are deservedly a team that has a good defensive reputation. Obviously we need to score more goals but we have got goals in us.”
