For those of us who were a little bit worried about the lack of goalkeeping cover for Mark Schwarzer, Fulham have just announced – with rather less fanfare than the expected arrival of Andy Johnson – that they have signed the experienced Switzerland international goalkeeper Pascal  Zuberbuhler on a one-year contract.

Zuberbuhler joined the Whites on their pre-season tour of the Far East as an unidentified trialist and played in the scoreless friendly draw at Crystal Palace. He was well known to Roy Hodgson from his time as manager of the Swiss national team and has even had some experience of English football, having signed for West Brom in 2006.

Zuberbuhler joins from Neuchatel Xamax and made his 51st appearance for Switzerland during their final Euro 2008 group game, a win against Portugal, in June. He’ll provide experienced cover for Mark Schwarzer, who he expects is the established first-choice.
