Goodbye, and good luck, Volzy

Goodbye, and good luck, Volzy

– We’re very sorry to see Moritz Volz leave for Ipswich on loan. He’s made almost 150 appearances for the Whites since arriving as an unheralded loanee from Arsenal and remains just the kind of character football needs as it stands accused of losing it’s soul. Whether it was at right back or pressed into service as an emergency midfielder, Volzy always gave his all and – despite seemingly slipping behind Baird and then Pantsil and Stoor in the pecking order will be sadly missed. We’ll remember with particular fondness that goal at Chelsea. Remarkably, that leaves Collins John, who might also be off soon, as our longest-serving player.

– According to some reports, Roy Hodgson has parted with £2m to bring in Dickson Etuhu from Sunderland. As we all know by now, Dickson doesn’t come with the most flattering of reviews from Preston or Sunderland supporters but he’s another addition to our squad, which was looking exceedingly slim after all those summer departures. Presumably, Roy reckons he’ll add some muscle to our all-too-lightweight midfield. If he’s really a ‘powerhouse’ then he should!

– We’ve drawn Burnley away in the next round of the League Cup. Turf Moor, if you recall, was the site of our shock FA Cup replay defeat back in 2004. That was a horrible night, live on the telly as well. We can only hope for better this time around.
