Everton have rejected Fulham’s £5m offer for England striker Andy Johnson.

Roy Hodgson views the forward Crystal Palace forward as one of his key targets as he tries to supplement Fulham’s striking options following their miraculous escape from relegation last season. Fulham are certain to return with an improved offer and they are in the driving seat as Johnson has made it clear to Everton that is not interested in joining Sunderland or Wigan and would prefer a return to London.

Hodgson needs a replacement for Brian McBride after the former Fulham captain decided to return to America at the end of his contract and the injured Diomansy Kamara will miss the start of the new season.
