Everton have turned down Fulham’s £5m offer for their England international striker Andy Johnson, according to the Daily Mail.

The Goodison Park club are determined to hold onto Johnson and have also given short shrift to Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce, who has registered his interest in the former Crystal Palace forward.

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has made the recruitment of a new striker his top priority this summer after skipper Brian McBride elected to return home to the United States at the end of last season. The Whites are expected to return with an improved offer for Johnson, who has scored 22 goals in 74 appearances for Everton since joining from Selhurst Park in a deal worth £8.6m in May 2006.
