Serbian defender Dejan Stefanovic’s £1m move from Portsmouth to Fulham on transfer deadline day in 2007 didn’t really go to plan. The experienced centre back made his debut during an incredible 3-3 draw with Tottenham, where the Whites came back from 3-1 down to pinch a point, but Stefanovic made only fifteen first-team appearances after Roy Hodgson paired Brede Hangeland with Aaron Hughes in defence after the Norwegian’s arrival in January 2008. Stefanovic was quoted as hoping that Portsmouth would beat Fulham on the final day of the season owing to his lack of game time at Craven Cottage: comments that he subsequently refuted. He joined Norwich in July 2008 with his Fulham career at an end.
