Antti Niemi’s agent has stated that five Premier League sides have enquired about Fulham’s Finnish goalkeeper.

Niemi is looking to move on from Craven Cottage this summer after losing his status as the club’s number one goalkeeper, firstly to Kasey Keller, and now to summer signing Mark Schwarzer.

The former Hearts goalkeeper has most recently been linked with a return to Edinburgh to join Hibernian but his agent Richard Cody revealed the speculation is a case of reporters putting two and two together and coming up with five.

Cody told setantasports.com: “We’ve heard about the Scottish ones – we’ve heard about Celtic and Hibs. There’s nothing there. The Hibs one is because of Mixu Paatelainen – they’ve been very good friends for many years. I’m very good friends with Mixu myself but it’s not one we’ve openly discussed.”

If Scotland is unlikely to be Niemi’s next port of call, then a move to one of Fulham’s Premier League rivals looks more likely.

Cody stated five top-flight clubs have stated an interest in signing the 36-year-old and that a deal should be concluded before The Cottagers return to pre-season training in the first week of July.

Cody added: “All the clubs that have enquired have been Premiership clubs – there have been five enquiries.

“Antti’s on holiday at the moment and we’ll be getting together next week to discuss the various options.

“Before he goes back for pre-season we’d like to get something sorted. Obviously he’s very disappointed to be leaving the Fulham fans. They’ve voted him their player of the year for the last three years but he feels – and I agree with him – that now’s the right time to move on.

“We’re looking at a Premier League club, but it’s important what they’re offering and where they see Antti fitting into their club.”
