Danny Murphy has agreed a new one-year contract with Fulham, who have the option of extending the midfielder’s stay by an additional year.

The 31-year-old’s contract was up for renewal at the end of this month and he has been rewarded for the key role he played in Fulham’s successful fight against relegation.

Murphy scored the goal at Portsmouth on the final day of last season that secured The Cottagers’ Great Escape.

A Lawrie Sanchez signing from Tottenham last summer, Murphy featured in all but five of his team’s Premier League fixtures.

Murphy will compete in a Fulham midfield next season which will also include Zoltan Gera and Andranik Teymourian after the pair, like Murphy, put their names to Cottagers contracts earlier this week.

With Murphy’s signature in the bag it is now likely midfielder Steve Davis will leave the Londoners.

He wants to join Glasgow Rangers on a permanent deal, and Fulham are eager to bring in some cash for new signings.
