Groningen have confirmed further talks will be held with Fulham regarding a deal for Erik Nevland.
The Norwegian striker is keen to move to Craven Cottage to be reunited with Fulham boss Roy Hodgson, who he worked with at Viking Stavanger.
Hodgson’s first offer for the former Manchester United youngster was rejected, but Nevland has expressed a desire to join the Cottagers.
His Dutch club will now attempt to fulfil the forward’s wish after revealing another round of negotiations is anticipated on Friday evening.
A statement on Groningen’s official website read: “Tonight, FC Groningen will sit round the table with Fulham to discuss the possible transfer of Erik Nevland.
“The English club – 19th in the Premier League – would like the attacker immediately for the next two-and-a-half seasons.
“An initial bid from Fulham was rejected earlier this week. Erik Nevland has now asked the club to negotiate with Fulham.
“Out of respect for what the player wants, Groningen will speak with the English club.”
Hodgson has already bolstered his attack during the transfer window with the signing of Eddie Johnson and also hopes to capture Daniel Cousin from Rangers after losing out to Wigan Athletic for Marlon King.
