Fulham are close to making defender Brede Hangeland Roy Hodgson’s first signing, according to reports from Norway.

The Norwegian international worked with Hodgson at Viking Stavanger and the new Fulham manager wants to take the tall centre back to Craven Cottage as he seeks to keep the Whites in the Premier League. Hangeland has made 91 appearances – and scored five goals – in four years with FCK, whom he helped win back-to-back domestic titles.

Hangeland, who has previously had a trail with Newcastle, has also interested in Aston Villa but a reunion with Hodgson at Craven Cottage now appears on the cards. Fulham are reportedly willing to pay as much as £3.5m to secure the 26 year-old’s signature and the Norwegian press say Hangeland is already in London to complete a medical ahead of his move.
