Fulham are looking to bring in Watford forward Darius Henderson as a direct replacement for injured striker Brian McBride.

The American veteran is likely to miss the rest of the year after suffering a serious knee injury in Fulham’s controversial defeat by Middlesbrough at the weekend. The loss of McBride has left Lawrie Sanchez searching for a target man before the end of the transfer window and Henderson, who scored fourteen goals as the Hornets reached the Premier League two seasons ago has become his primary target.

He scored just three times in 35 appearances for Watford in the top flight last term but that has not put off Fulham, who have seen their initial £1.5m bid turned down. Henderson appears to be keen on the move to Craven Cottage – submitting a transfer request after becoming upset that Watford blocked the deal, despite having accepted a £1.3m offer from Preston earlier this month.
