Fulham could sign a second Watford player as they close in on the cpature of Algerian winger Hameur Bouazza, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that the Whites are keen on defender Jay de Merit.

The American international joined the Hornets from non-league Northwood after impressing then Watford manager Ray Lewington during a pre-season friendly between the sides. The 27 year-old headed himself into club folklore by scoring the opening goal in their Championship play-off final win over Leeds last May and made 32 appearances as the Vicarage Road outfit battled valiantly against an immediate return to the second tier.

Lawrie Sanchez is still keen on further supplementing his defence despite spending more than £20m since being confirmed as Chris Coleman’s permanent successor at Craven Cottage earlier this summer.
