Sheffield Wednesday will hold more talks with Chris Brunt in the hope of persuading him to snub the Premiership.

Brunt turned down the chance to extend his contract at Hillsborough, citing his desire to play in the Premiership as a key factor in his decision. The winger is believed to be frustrated by the Owls’ refusal to allow him to team up with Lawrie Sanchez at Craven Cottage.

The Northern Ireland international becomes a free agent when his current deal expires next summer Manager Brian Laws is loathe to part with the highly-rated youngster and insists that Brunt’s aspirations will only serve to motivate him for the forthcoming season.

“I understand where Chris is coming from. He wants to play at the highest level. He accepts that he will have to wait twelve months to fulfil his dream but hopefully his dream will be fulfilled with us, not with somebody else.”
