Sunderland are hoping to sign Fulham defender Zat Knight for around £2m this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

Lawrie Sanchez is planning a revamp of his first-team squad after being confirmed as the permanent boss at Craven Cottage after keeping Fulham in the top flight and Knight, whose future at the club was in doubt even under Chris Coleman, is one of those likely to be moved on. The tall centre back, who has won two England caps, is on Roy Keane’s shopping list and the Black Cats are confident of beating Aston Villa to his signature.

Knight has made 177 first-team appearances in eight years at Fulham since signing from Rushall Olympic and was part of the side that won the Intertoto Cup under Jean Tigana back in 2002.
