Clint Dempsey was glad to repay Fulham with the winner against Liverpool.

The American international picked the perfect time to score his first goal for the club with the only goal of the game in the 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Craven Cottage.

Dempsey has endured a frustrating time at Fulham since his January arrival from New England Revolution and he is hoping to build on his strike against Liverpool by becoming a regular starter next season.

“It has been frustrating because I haven’t really been playing much recently and I haven’t felt able to contribute too much. But today I was able to give something back to Fulham.

“Next season I want to be a regular starter. I think I can be a success in English football – if I didn’t, then I wouldn’t be here.

“Scoring the winner to keep Fulham up was as good as scoring for the USA in the World Cup
