Preston manager Paul Simpson has denied reports claiming Fulham have lodged a £500,000 bid for goalkeeper Carlo Nash.

The 33-year-old, who has made public his desire to move to Craven Cottage and picked up a minor hamstring problem in training on Monday, is recognised as one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premiership.

The Cottagers have failed in a bid for Hearts’ Scotland international Craig Gordon but Simpson maintains there has been no offer for Nash.

He said: “There hasn’t been an official bid from any club but all sorts of things have been thrown around in the papers and Carlo has chosen to say something as well, which is disappointing, but all we’re trying to do is get on with it quietly and the minute we’ve got anything to say, it will come through the football club.

“To this point there hasn’t been anything official that we need to talk about.

“He spoke to me about it on Saturday but nothing has been spoken out since then. As far as I’m concerned we’re all just getting on with it.”
