Fulham boss Chris Coleman has apparently convinced midfielder Papa Bouba Diop that his future lies at Craven Cottage.

The Senegalese international, known as “The Wardrobe” because of his size, is a favourite with many Fulham fans.

Diop had said through his agent that the lack of first team football at The Cottage was forcing him to look for another club.

The only club known to have expressed an interest in the 6’3″ midfielder was Wigan but Papa Bouba Diop has turned the offer down for undisclosed reasons.

Today the Fulham boss stated:

“Papa Bouba Diop has spoken to Wigan Athletic but decided against a move. He wants to stay and fight for his place which I am more than happy with because we’ve now got competition for places at the Club.

“I spoke to Bouba this morning and now we’ve got new players in order for him to win a place in the side he’s going to have to be at his best and he knows that. His best was the first season he was with us and he has to get back to that form.

“When he’s on song he’s a formidable midfield player. He has to get his head down and concentrate on his football and playing at his best for Fulham. Bouba has said that is what he is going to do.”
