Clint Dempsey was pleased to have made his first appearance for his new club.

Clint Dempsey had a memorable Fulham debut, coming on as a substitute and making a cheeky back heel that helped set up the team’s only goal.

“It’s always good to get the first game out the way,” said Dempsey afterward. “I’ve been travelling back and forth to the States, so it’s been tough getting the training in.”

Dempsey’s move from MLS and the New England Revolution was on hold for a couple weeks pending work permit approval.

“I’ve been off for a while so I haven’t played any games since November,” said the U.S. international.

“The atmosphere on Saturday was great and we’ve got good home support,” Dempsey commented on his first taste of Premiership football.

“The level is obviously higher, but if I had to make a comparison I would say it’s similar to playing for the national team: everyone around you is a good player.”
