Fulham are being heavily linked with a sensational loan swoop for Roma striker Vincenzo Montello, according to reports in Italy.

The Premier League outfit have tabled an initial inquiry with Roma and club officials are due to discuss the possibility of the veteran forward moving to London in the coming hours. Montella is eager to play regular football, having seen his recent seasons in Rome ravaged by injury and the fact that coach Luciano Spaletti sees him as a substitute.

Milan have held a longstanding interest in Montella but the fact that the striker is ineligible for European competition has effectively killed off any hope of a San Siro switch. The 32 year-old has reportedly told club officials that wants to leave after being left out of Roma’s 1-0 Champions’ League defeat by Valencia on Tuesday and is intrigued by the prospect of a move to Craven Cottage.
