Moritz Volz is loving his new midfield role – especially after he scored his first Premiership goal to grab Fulham a point at Villa Park.

The German full back has been used in central midfield after injuries radically reduced Chris Coleman’s options in the middle of the park. The 23 year-old is delighted to be able to contribute to Fulham’s recent run of good form that has lifted the Londoners to eighth in the table.

Volz told Fulham’s official website he was delighted to find the net on Sunday;

“It was amazing and totally unexpected as everybody could see! The best thing was that it earned us a point. We’ve had a bit more luck this season and the Newcastle game springs to mind. We’ve got a good base to build on now and hopefully we can produce an away record like we did in my first season at Fulham when we finished ninth.”

“I enjoy playing midfield as I can get up and down the pitch. I get into more advanced positions and into scoring opportunities like I did on Saturday. I think some players can cope with the move from defence to midfield. A lot of defenders have played midfield during their youth team days so they know what it’s about.

I played in midfield until I was about 18 so it wasn’t something entirely new to me but I’ve never played there in my professional career.”
