Fulham manager Chris Coleman undertook a scouting mission to the United States on Saturday. He was spotted watching DC United take on New England Revolution making copious notes. But the million dollar question is which potential signing caught his eye?

The obvious answer would be former wonderkid Freddy Adu, who has been the immediate subject of the American rumour mill, and has been tipped to be the USA’s first global soccer star since he was a young prodigy. But the more discerning choice would be the Revolution’s attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey. The Texan has just been voted the US national team’s player of the year and was the standout performer during a disappointing World Cup campaign this summer – netting the Americans’ only goal of the finals against Ghana.

Could Dempsey make a January move to Craven Cottage? We’ll just have to wait and see.
