Tottenham manager Martin Jol has made an enquiry for Luis Boa Morte – in case an £8million swoop for Atletico Madrid’s Martin Petrov fails.

Dutchman Jol is a long-term admirer of Fulham forward Boa Morte (above) and the Spurs boss would prefer to bring in the Portuguese ahead of Bulgaria star Petrov to solve the problem left-wing position at White Hart Lane.

Boa Morte, 29, signed a new long-term deal with Fulham last season but Tottenham made an enquiry for him last year and have gone back again despite being well down the line in the battle to sign Petrov, which was exclusively revealed by Mirror Sport last month.

Spurs, however, are in the habit of lining up several players for positions in the team and then seeing which deal comes off.

They have got a bid in place to tempt Petrov, 27, who wants to leave Atletico Madrid for the Premiership .
