Fulham boss Chris Coleman has dropped England international Zat Knight from the squad for the club’s opening Premier League fixture at Manchester United this weekend.

The 6ft 5in centre half has been heavily linked with a move away from Craven Cottage since being disciplined by Fulham for a series of off-field misdemeanours last season and Coleman has opted to use the Old Trafford opener as an opportunity to bed in a new defensive partnership. It is thought that the Whites will start with Ian Pearce and Philippe Christanval at the heart of their back four.

It remains to be seen whether Knight, who has been a regular in the side since being handed a debut by Jean Tigana in 2001, leaves Fulham in this transfer window.
