Fulham have denied reports that they have accepted a bid from Birmingham City for Collins John – saying the Dutch striker remains in the club’s plans.

Press reports from the Midlands had claimed that Birmingham were due to talk to the Dutch international after agreeing a fee of £3m – potentially rising to £4m – for the 21 year-old, but Fulham issued a statement denying that.

The club statement read: “Following recent speculation regarding Collins John, the club would like to confirm that they have not accepted an offer for the transfer. Collins remains a Fulham player and is currently involved in pre-season training in Devon, eager to fight for his starting position in the team’s line-up.”

John, who made an immediate impression after signing from FC Twente in January 2004, topped Fulham’s goalscoring charts with twelve goals last season and Chris Coleman is believed to want to keep him at Craven Cottage
