Fulham have accepted an offer from Birmingham City for striker Collins John.

The bid, believed to be an initial £3m which could raise to £4m, will allow Steve Bruce to try and persuade the Dutch forward to drop down into the Championship. John is reluctant to do that, believing such a move would jeopardise his international career, having shot to prominence with 22 goals in 80 appearances since joining Fulham from FC Twente in January 2004.

Fulham’s decision to accept Birmingham’s offer might prompt other Premiership sides – who would have taken note of John’s eleven league goals last season whilst not a regular in Chris Coleman’s starting line-up – to join the race for his services.
