Steed Malbranque is confident Fulham can continue their late-season surge when they take on Barclays Premiership relegation battlers Portsmouth at Craven Cottage.

Chris Coleman’s side have virtually ended their own fears of the drop, while Harry Redknapp’s team have also suddenly sprung to life too.

But it is the shock win over Chelsea which has convinced French midfielder Malbranque the Cottagers can approach the remainder of the season with renewed enthusiasm.

He said: “It was very good for us to beat Chelsea. It gave us a lot of confidence. We all played very well – the whole team.

“We knew it was a very important game for the fans and we won it – so for the fans it will go down as an unforgettable day.

“We knew it was very important to keep some clean sheets if we wanted to win games and we’ve seen that we were right about that.”
