Celtic have turned down Fulham’s £3m offer for midfielder Stilian Petrov.

Chris Coleman has been a long-term admirer of the classy Bulgarian playmaker and has now failed in two attempts to bring him to London. Fulham chief executive Lee Hoos admitted: “He’s a player we’re definiting interested in getting”.

But Celtic boss Gordon Strachan doesn’t want to lose Petrov – having insisted earlier in the year that it would take ‘a £50m offer for me to think about selling Stan’ – and hasn’t given up hope on persuading him to sign a new contract at Parkhead.
