Fulham full back Moritz Volz was taken to hospital with a possible punctured lung after injury his ribs in a heavy aerial challenge with West Brom defender Paul Robinson.

The German defender was also concussed as he left the field and, after hospital tests, was diagnosed with a fractured rib. This painful problem makes him a serious doubt for the trip to Birmingham next weekend.

Fulham assistant manager Steve Kean told the club’s official website: “He’s got a fracture in one of his ribs and he could have a punctured lung, so it’s a bad one. We think he might be kept in hospital overnight. He will obviously now be doubtful for Birmingham.”
