Fulham are reported to be launching a £4m raid for Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov.

The Bulgarian International is being seen as a potential replacement for Steed Malbranque who is being courted by French club Lyon. If the French midfielder does move to Lyon then a bid could be made for Petrov.

The English Premiership outfit need to resolve both moves before the end of the transfer window next week.

Petrov has spoken previously about his ambition to play in the Premiership.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan was not willing to say much when asked about the story after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by current Scottish champions Rangers. But he joked: “We don’t want to see any of our best players go and, after that, Stilian must be worth £20m.”

Fulham’s ability to make a successful offer for Petrov has improved with high earner Steve Marlet finally coming off the wage bill at Craven Cottage.
