Fulham winger Luis Boa Morte could finally be set to join Newcastle United because of a goalkeeping crisis at Craven Cottage.
Magpies boss Graeme Souness has been chasing the pacey Portuguese winger’s signature since January but has always been unwilling to match the Londoners’ £6million asking price.
However, the Magpies have apparently finally constructed a tempting package for Boa Morte, which will see £3million plus goalkeeper Steve Harper heading for Craven Cottage.
The deal may not be worth the £6million Fulham chief Chris Coleman was holding out for, but he is desperate to sign an experienced shot-stopper after Mark Crossley and Jaroslav Drobny picked up injuries during pre-season.
