Liam Rosenior has been delighted with his progression towards regular first team football with Fulham.

The young Fulham full back has taken to the Premier League with real aplomb and has quickly become one of Chris Coleman’s most trusted performers. The confident youngster told the club’s official website that he had been aiming to try and break into the senior squad at the start of this season:

“One of my goals at the beginning of the season was to play some first team games. So obviously I’m very pleased to have done that and hopefully things will continue to go well for me. If I hadn’t thought that I was going to get into the first team I wouldn’t have joined the club – the whole point of me being a professional footballer is to play first team football. I’m a very confident person – I think that comes over on the pitch – and hopefully my performances will carry on improving the more games I play.

Rosenior certainly displayed that confidence on his league debut against Manchester United and his assured display left nobody in any doubt that he could handle himself at the highest level.

“In a way you’ve got nothing to lose playing against a team like United. You can just go out and give your all and do your best and nobody will really expect too much. But luckily for me my performance was all right on the night, and now all I hope is I can continue like that for the rest of the season. I don’t really get nervous before games – I was a bit apprehensive before United, but the manager and Steve Kean showed that they had confidence in me and I think that helped a lot. They’re two really good people, and they’ve really helped me develop my game.

I’ve got good energy levels, I like to get up and down, and I think that’s one of the strengths of my game. But I can definitely improve on my performances so far; I’m willing and enthusiastic – I know that sometimes gets me into trouble, but that’s the way I play.

The management team here are very straight – if you do something well they’ll tell you, and if you haven’t done so well they’ll take you to one side and talk you through it. And what they do is give you a lot of confidence about yourself – sometimes just their presence can give you a real lift.
