There was concern for Moritz Volz’s health after he came off worse following an uncompromising challenge from West Bromwich Albion’s Paul Robinson. The Fulham full back was left poleaxed and was taken to hospital suffering from concussion.

After hospital scans, it was ascertained that Volz had fractured a rib and the German defender is now a serious doubt for Fulham’s visit to St Andrews next Saturday.

Fulham assistant manager Steve Kean told the club’s official website: “He’s got a fracture in one of his ribs and he could have a punctured lung, so it’s a bad one. We think he might be kept in hospital overnight. He will obviously now be doubtful for Birmingham.”
