Moritz Volz wants Fulham to tighten up at the back – starting with Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa – after the Whites folded from a winning position against Liverpool last weekend.

The German full back takes the number of goals Chris Coleman’s side have shipped already this season personally and is targeting a much improved display at Villa Park this weekend. He told the club’s official website:

“We’ve conceded nearly two goals a game so that’s very disappointing for me as a defender. I thought I played better football last year but I think the same could be said for a lot of our players. We all know that we can play better and it’s up to us to prove it.

There was a lot of frustration after the Liverpool match. When you’re 2-0 up at half time against any team, especially at home, you want to get the three points. We managed to give that away and therefore it’s very disappointing for us. It definitely wasn’t all down to bad luck. We just didn’t play as well as we did in the first half. They had much more space and possession and we just couldn’t play in their half. They boxed us in and maybe they deserved their luck.

We are to blame, the Gaffer wasn’t playing, we were out there on the pitch and we were the ones that gave it away. We’re disappointed most of all because we failed and we had the biggest influence on the pitch. We’ve got to look forward and there are still plenty of games to get points from. We don’t want to be in a situation where really have to dig our way out of something. At the moment we’re underachieving and not playing as well as we can – especially in terms of results. We can’t be happy that we’ve only won two games out of nine.”
