Scottish under-21 international Kieran McAnespie managed just two first-team appearances in three years with Fulham after signing from St. Johnstone in August 2000. He suffered from the success of Steve Finnan at right back and sought regular football on loan at Hearts and Bournemouth before joining Plymouth Argyle on a free transfer in March 2003.
