German World Cup winner Karl-Heinze Riedle teamed up with his former Liverpool manager Roy Evans at Craven Cottage in September 1999 after completing a £200,000 move from Anfield. The striker scored on his Fulham debut in a 2-1 win at Norwich City the following month and, despite largely being used as a substitute, made a significant contribution in front of goal for Paul Bracewell’s otherwise shot-shy side. Riedle and Evans succeeded Bracewell as a caretaker management team until Mohamed Al-Fayed appointed Jean Tigana. Riedle retired at the end of the following season, having scored once in fourteen outings, as the Whites clinched promotion to the Premiership.
