Fulham boss Chris Coleman is closing in on Senegal midfielder Pape Bouba Diop after news that star man Steed Malbranque may miss the start of the season through injury.

African giant Diop had been on trial with Portsmouth, but Pompey boss Harry Redknapp was not too keen on the Lens man.

Diop has seemingly given up hope of moving to Fratton Park, but is still looking to play in The Premiership.

Cottagers boss Chris Coleman has said that he would like to add to his summer signings, and sees the powerful midfielder as an ideal new recruit.

Diop is thought to have already spoken with Coleman and could be well on his way to sealing a move to England at Craven Cottage.
