French under-21 international Fabrice Fernandes signed for Fulham on loan from Rennes in August 2000 and, although he helped the Whites reach the Premiership after a stunning season, his time at Craven Cottage ended early after he was sent back to France for persistent breaches of discipline. The winger had wonderfully quick feet and an eye for goal, as evidenced in the way he scored four times and contributed nine assists in 36 appearances for Jean Tigana’s side. The highlight was a fine free-kick in the FA Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester United in January 2001.
