Chris Coleman felt Fulham’s point at Fratton Park was a good one against in-form opposition.

The Welshman said after the final whistle: “Portsmouth have hit a bit of form just at the right time. It is a good point to get because for one thing the crowd here are magnificent.

“We were poor in the first half and we had a chat at half time but we started the second half well and went on from there.

“We could have won it and I was certainly disappointed when we went a goal down because it was against the run of play. Sean Davis had an unbelievable shot when he hit the bar and was easily our best player in the first half.

“Boa Morte had a lot to do and he’s not really a target man. That’s why we sent on Brian McBride and it paid off with his goal.”

Fulham still have an outside chance of making the UEFA Cup and Coleman said: “With two games to go we are seventh and I would have certainly taken that at the beginning of the season.

“It was disappointing to drop points today especially as Newcastle lost. But we’ll keep battling to the end and if we can get two more wins that will be fantastic.”
