Fulham hope to sign Emmanuel Petit this summer — but only if he takes a £25,000-a-week pay cut.

Chelsea’s veteran French midfielder is on almost £40,000 a week but wants to stay in London when his Stamford Bridge deal expires this summer.

Fulham are cutting their wage bill and are expecting to ship out their two £40,000-a-week men, Edwin Van der Sar and Steve Marlet.

So Petit, 33, would have to accept less than £15,000 a week at Fulham.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona man has been out in the cold since the Roman Abramovich revolution began.

Spurs previously expressed interest in the 1998 World Cup winner but Petit said he would never join the Gunners’ most- bitter rivals.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman is looking for another central midfielder with Junichi Inamoto likely to return to Japan and Petit is aware of their interest.
