Fulham boss Chris Coleman plans showdown talks with Steve Marlet once the season is over.
Marlet arrived from Lyon for a club record £11.5million in 2001 but failed to live up to his price tag as he struggled to adapt to life in the Premiership.
He was loaned to Marseille last August but that arrangement ends in the summer and Coleman must decide what to do with the unsettled 30-year-old France striker.
Marlet has made it clear he is not interested in a return to London and wants to fight for his place at Marseille, despite a disappointing spell at the Stade Velodrome.
But Coleman, whose dislike for transfer demands being made through the media was heightened by the recent Louis Saha episode, is remaining tight-lipped over the player’s future.
‘I’ve seen a lot of quotes in the papers from Steve Marlet. I want to sit down with him and talk face to face and tell him what I’ve got planned for him,’ said the Welshman.
‘I don’t want him reading in the papers what those plans are. If he wants to tell me what his plans through the press, that’s up to him.
‘But I would rather tell him man to man what I want from him or what the club wants from him. At the moment he’s on loan to Marseille until the end of the season.’
Asked if he thought Marlet represented value for money at £11.5million, Coleman replied: ‘No.
