Matchwinner Brian McBride described his winning goal against Tottenham on his Fulham debut as the ‘perfect start’ to life in London.

The American striker, a £600,000 signing from Columbus Crew last month, came off the bench to fire and scored within eight minutes of his introduction – firing a predatory finish past compatriot Kasey Keller in the six-yard box.

McBride told the press afterwards:

“It was the perfect start not, because I scored, but because I came into a winning team. It was a dream debut. I would have settled for the victory, but getting the winner was extra special. I’d like to make my mark with this team. If that brings along the American outfield players then that would be great.”

McBride admitted that he had anticipated Ian Pearce would win a crucial header in the Tottenham area and “although Kasey Keller managed to deflect it, it fell nicely to my feet”.
