Fulham have agreed a deal with United States international defender Carlos Bocaengra, according to reports from America.

The Chicago Fire defender, who has been looking for a move to Europe in the last few months, has had an application for a work permit approved by the Home Office. The 24 year-old had to appeal to a special panel as he didn’t initially meet the government’s immigration criteria, but dispensation has now been granted for Bocanegra to conclude discussions with Fulham.

Bocanegra, who can play either on the left or in the middle of defence, has made 103 appearances in four seasons with Chicago, where he won the US Open Cup in 2000 and 2003. He has twice been named the league’s defender of the year.
