Fulham winger Luis Boa Morte has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

According to a statement on the FA’s website this “relates to an incident involving the player and supporters” during a game against Everton on 10 January. Fulham won the match 2-1 and Everton fans were reported to the FA for throwing a lighter and programmes at Boa Morte as he prepared to take a corner in front of him. A police spokesperson suggested the Portuguese winger could have incited the supporters by allegedly making obscene gestures.

The Metropolitan Police reportedly considered charging Boa Morte but are now content to leave the disciplinary matter in the hands of the FA. Fulham are understood to be surprised by the charge and will mount a full defence of their player.
