Fulham’s French midfielder Steed Malbranque has been named the Evening Standard’s player of the month for October.

Malbranque said: “I’m delighted to have been named player of the month but it’s the results of the team that have made this happen. It’s been a great start for the club and we have to continue this form and spirit in the next few games. To win at Old Trafford and play in that manner was a fantastic achievement and we want more days like that.

“I was aware of the Liverpool rumours but have always concentrated on giving my maximum effort for Fulham. I’ve just signed a one-year contract extension which shows I’m committed to the club. I’m happy here and am enjoying playing regularly so it’s important to demonstrate my commitment to the fans. Several players have signed new contracts and that shows we’re confident of building something special. We’re all happy working together and there’s a buzz around the place.”
