Midfielder Steed Malbranque has handed Fulham boost by signing a one-year contract extension.

The new deal will keep the talented French playmaker with the Whites until the summer of 2007. Malbranque had been heavily linked with a move to pastures new, with both Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly interested in signing him, but the former Lyon man was delighted to commit his future to the Cottagers.

Malbranque told Fulham’s official website: “I am very pleased to sign an extension to my contract with Fulham. I feel very good here, and this has made me very happy. There is a very good spirit within the team and the club as a whole. This is very important for me – I want to be able to feel good about the club that I play for.

“I think the future here looks very good, and I would say that I think we will be able to bring some success here. It wasn’t a very difficult decision to make; I feel good here and I am very happy – it’s as simple as that. I hope that this will put a positive message out to the fans. I know they are behind me and I think it was important to reassure them about the future by signing.

“I try to give my best on the pitch, and I hope that what I do pleases the fans because when they support me it helps my confidence. Now I can look forward to the future at Fulham.”
