Chris Coleman described his ‘different class’ after Fulham swept to a sensational 3-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Lee Clark, Steed Malbranque and Junichi Inamoto scored as the Cottagers picked up a fully deserved three points at the home of the champions.

“Every one of my players was different class today, and I can’t pick anyone out – they were all brilliant,” Coleman said. “They must be thinking they can go anywhere after a performance like that, because we deserved the result today.

“You can call me negative if you like – but I’m still thinking about getting the 40 points as soon as possible. Let’s not forget that people were saying I was a rookie who was going to get the sack after two months and that we were going to finish bottom.

“We will not get carried away – although the way we played today must have instilled the players with confidence to do the same against Liverpool next week.”

Coleman reaped the rewards for opting to take the game to United instead of holding out for what might have seemed a precious draw.

He confirmed: “The only way to get something was by trying to take the game to United.

“Even after United’s goal, the lads were still bubbling at half-time. We said if we go out and do the same again we have a chance – and that’s what we did.”
