Fulham are purportedly ready to sign French full back Jean-Louis Montero on a free transfer.

Montero is available for nothing after leaving Guingamp at the end of the season and he has been unable to secure a fresh club.

Interest from Nantes, Rennes and Rapid Vienna failed to bring a contract for the experienced right back, who was a virtual ever-present during his one season with Guingamp.

But reports suggest Fulham are prepared to offer him the chance to relaunch his career with the Premiership outfit nearing the end of their quest to replace Steve Finnan.

The Republic of Ireland international moved to Liverpool in the summer and Fulham boss Chris Coleman has yet to snare a permanent successor to the gifted full back.

Moritz Volz has been occupying the right back berth this term during his five-month loan from Arsenal but Fulham’s attempts to make the deal permanent are likely to be rebuffed.

That has forced Coleman to search elsewhere, with Montero rumoured to be the man he has chosen to add to the French contingent at Loftus Road.
