Chris Coleman was delighted as Fulham nullified Blackburn’s attacking threats and were clinical on the counter attack to clinch another away win on his return to Ewood Park.

He said: “It was pretty obvious what we came to do, we came to frustrate them and we did that. We were very aware that Blackburn have got some great players and I still think they will be a top six side so this is a great result for us.

“We have to take a lot of positives when we limit a side like that to so few chances. We can’t just go out and play nice, pretty football – we have been doing the nasty side of it too.”

French midfielder Steed Malbranque made the difference and Coleman added: “Steed’s a different class, he’s a great player. When we play in that formation our two wide men are very important for us, and when Steed attacks like that he’s very exciting.”

He added that Fulham will aim to employ the same tactics on their travels throughout the season.

Coleman said: “At home we take the game to the opposition a bit more but away we have to be more defensive, and we have already picked up some good results.”
